![]() ![]() I'm not a big fan of post-processing, even though I'm using DXO PhotoLab, the most I'm doing to my Pen-F post-processing is open up the RAW, adjust highlight/shadow-sliders to my liking, adjust contrast to my liking and maybe add some ClearView, yet to be honest I never have an actual vision let alone real a clue or full idea what I'm actually doing. The Fuji is a wonderful camera in that it produces very nice images with simplicity in a smallish form factor, but so does the Pen-F and now the EM10 MKiv.Ĭlick to expand.Hey Jim, I'm trying my best to give a first answer to your question. The Pen-F will stay (I have had it for years now) but I am on the fence regarding the X100V. I try to buy used or refurbished so that I can resell what I don’t like. The problem is there is no perfect camera but it is fun to try something different. Tilt screen, compact size, ILC, built in fill flash, and IBIS. All in all, between the 2 cameras, I prefer the Pen-F.īut then I picked up a refurbished EM10 MKiv and except for the lack of the Pen mono profiles, I really enjoy using this camera. The OI Share app is a bit clunky and slow so I rarely use that to transfer images. Ugh! I really like the Mono profile of the Pen-F, the Fuji profiles are ok but I also post process most of my images as well, except for the Pen-F mono images. The new Pen E-P7 has those 2 items but then no EVF! An EVF is needed at least for me on sunny days and to see my settings more easily without having to put my cheaters on. I am attracted to the X100V for the tilt screen and built in flash. I have a PEN F with several nice lenses so what am I going to get for $1400 that I don't already have in my existing camera.Ĭlick to expand.First, if you are going to give it a try, I would buy used then you can sell for minimal loss if it is not for you. noting that you also have a PEN F can you comment on the SOOC JPEGS from both? This thread has peaked my interest in the X100V. The cool thing is you can still shoot jpeg+raw for that extra backup.Įxcept for weather resistance, I would think a PEN F + short prime is superior to any x100 camera. You stay in the moment and you commit to you result. I guess you could think about it like this: do you dislike post processing, then "filters" and other things like film sims are your friend. Yes you can 100% achieve the same photo if you post process in Lightroom. At the end I used 4-5 film sims exclusively depending on mood/setting.įuji caters to a achieve a certain look, SOOC. ![]() Same with various youtube channels, some of them will share their film simulations settings. That said, I did enjoy toying around with the Film Recipes on Fuji-X weekly and got some really nice results. You need to figure out if you like it or not. Thanks, The film simulations are all very subjective. Do they really stand out compared to those from an Olympus camera like the PEN F? The images from the X1OOV which I have seen in various you tube reviews r eally look fantastic ? I would appreciate thoughts on this. I keep hearing that Olympus jpegs are really good but I never seem to think mine are good enough so I usually shoot both but mostly throw the jpegs away except for the occasional fun of the various Art filters. I currently enjoy doing post processing using Lightroom (and that just got a lot more fun with the big release yesterday). The new lens viewfinder letting you see, optionally, the whole area around the image frame seems useful. Share app does work on my iPhone but it seems very slow to get connected and the process feels squirmy and fidgety. One nice point a recent reviewer made was how easy to transfer to iPhone and how much better it seems to work than on other cameras. I don't like not having IBIS but not many complaints about that so maybe not an issue. I also like all the various ways to get the image in sharp focus. What I know I would like with the X100V is the tilting screen, and as you said, it would be a "throw it in the bag" or over my shoulder and go. ![]() I have a PEN F with several nice lenses so what am I going to get for $1400 that I don't already have in my existing camera. ![]()
